Moin Moin!
So I'm a little later than I have been lately, but I'll catch you guys up!
So, a couple friends of mine from the program came over for the Superbowl. It started at half past 12 and we couldn't find the right channel! We apparently had to switch some sort of menu at some point to find the right version of SAT.1. But, we got in only about 10 minutes late. And yes, we were up the whole time watching the game and socializing! Even my host brother came and watched with us, even though he had school the next day and didn't understand the game. So my friends and I mostly spoke English with each other. My host brother kept up with the conversations even though he basically only converses in German. So I thought that was cool getting to explain the game to him and have him socialize with everyone. He really got to know how I am with my friends and all that. The funny part is that we were all not too attched to the teams in the game so we just really spent the time chilling.
The next really big event was my Bundestag partner coming to visit me and the other exchange student he is a partner to. We set up the hay hotel and ate cake and drank coffee while talking about our years so far, listening to him and my host dad catch up after a year. So i was a really good time. He invited the two exchange students to Berlin to see how he works and take some tours. So I'm getting to take an extra trip to Berlin for a couple of days! That was really cool. Something really interesting was that I didn'T even feel like I was talking to a politician. He was so relaxed, so easy to talk to. It was like meeting a family friend, quite honestly. So that was really nice and really easing. I'm well represented and I like him as a person.
The next was my Valentine's Day. A friend from the program switched host families and lives really close by. So, he came home with me Friday after school to see the Hof and to go to the Abifete with me. The Abifete is basically a party for everyone in the school 16 and up. Music, dancing, hanging out, just a good time. So we got to play with all the animals, ride the tractor, and just goof off. Another one of my buddies came and we all hung out before we went. We got there around 10:45 and just started dancing right away! I met a whole bunch of my school friends, other exchange students and we all just had a great time!
Brötchen. After all of these sleepovers, my host mom baked us breadrolls called Brötchen. They are the tastiest things to eat for breakfast! But, they are always made for a special event. After sleepovers, a class breakfast, right before someone has to be away for a couple days, the list goes on and on. I think it's just really awesome how Germans have break every breakfast and dinner and still have special bread rolls for special occasions. It's just a cultural thing that I thought you'd all be interested in reading about!
